Put on your dancing shoes!

I'd been keeping my eye out for the release date of the Orla Kiely for Clarks collection since they announced their collaboration last year, but when they were put up for sale a few weeks ago they didn't include international postage - I assume because Clarks wanted to keep all the Orla Kiely loveliness to themselves* and not share it with Australian Orla lovers.

*Not actual reason, I just made that up

But with thanks to my sister-from-another-mister Nicole, I was able to have a pair forwarded from the UK to me and when they arrived I put together a little outfit to wear to work to compliment my adorable new shoes!

Jumper - Supre
Blouse (collar only shown) - Top Shop
Mini Skirt - Self made

I'm so in love with them - but after a long day, they really did hurt my feet a lot sadly. Mainly along the top of my foot - under the navy strap where the vamp ends there seems to be a fold of fabric that keeps pressing into my foot. My feet were a bit tender afterwards, but once the leather stretches I think they'll be ok.

All day I walked around staring at my feet - colleges kept asking me if I was ok, and I would tell them happily - I'm looking at my new shoes!

My birthday is coming up in just over two weeks and I asked my boyfriend to buy my the navy pair, but sadly they are sold out! Oh well! I have one and that can be enough for now

I know 60s and 70s style shoes can sometimes look chunky and ugly to some people, but the block heel and bright colours are exactly what I love about this style of shoe. If I ever save up enough money, I'd like to get a custom pair made from Milk and Honey shoes in patent green leather - but for now I'll just stare are all these lovely block-heeled babes

  1. Yes and yes... I'm a fan of colourful shoes and sensible heels... I clicked through to see Orla's shoe designs for Clarks... and I'm gutted to see they are exclusively slingbacks! I wouldn't be able to wear these for work and I already own plenty of non-work shoes that I rarely get chance to wear.

I'm loving your matching outfit... a sensible shoe matches the outfit. Note to self... work more of my colourful shoes into blog posts.

    1. yes! all sling back. i don't normally buy them, but they were cute and there was only that style, but their pretty ok! They don't rub on my ankle at all. but if you need closed shoes for work - then that's a bummer.

  3. Hi, Catherine! As always, you look marvelous from head to toe. I remember those chunky shoe styles from back in the day. My g.f. wore them and I'm happy to see you sporting them today. As a man I am attracted to bright colors on a woman because it implies that she has the confidence to draw attention to herself. No matter which style you choose, confidence sells the look. I predict your shoes will be more comfortable once they are broken in.

Good night and have a happy Wednesday, dear friend Cat!

    1. Thank you Shady! I always thought men preferred ladies in subtle feminine colours, but i like your thinking. your girlfriend sounds like such a stylish lady, as im sure many girls were then =)

  4. They look absolutely wonderful, I love the matching outfit! Patent leather is the worst for comfort as it's so stiff, I hope they break in soon for you. Such a shame the others you wanted sold out. I've been tempted to save up for the Marianne platforms but I'm worried they'll make me taller than I'm comfortable with.

I always think it's such a shame that footwear doesn't come in as many wonderful shades as it used to. I always think that one day I'd love to have a vintage (or at least vintage styled) shoe in a variety of colours to match every outfit. I particularly love the blue "New York" shoe in the first advertisement.

    1. oh i know! the amount of times i've walked home with a limp wearing pretty shoes i cannot count on one hand. I was drawn to the Marianne shoes as well but they are far too tall for me as well.

ASOS has had quite a few good runs of block-heeled shoes and ive tried to buy them up in each colour as they've come out. have a look theyve got a really pretty pair of purple ones right now http://www.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3333567 or these cute minty metallic ones http://www.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3677838

  6. I fecking LOVE your new Orla's!!!! SO adorable! You frocked yourself up perfectly to go with them!
The shoe adverts are fantastic, I love them all....easy to see where Orla gets her inspiration!!!
I'm not adverse to any shape of heel, as long as it gives me a little extra height!
I hope you manage to find a pair in navy!

  9. How lovely that she was able to send them to you so you could have the shoes - they are glorious! I am thinking about getting myself a pair in the navy. I hope that the shoes eventually break in so you can wear them more comfortably. You've worn the perfect outfit to show them off too. And if I had those I'm sure that I'd be staring at me feet all day too! You can't beat bright and colourful shoes with a nice blocky heel. I swoon for them.

  11. Love old shoes ads! LOVE shoes, but ironically, hate them at the same time...lol. When I was a young woman in the 90s I had all those 90s-does-70s shoes that looked a lot like these. Only they were made with cheap materials and have since dry-rotted.
